Bergamot Oil is named
after an Italian city,
Bergamo. It is part of the
Rutaceae family, (citrus) a
small tree growing to about
four and a half metres high
with smooth green oval
leaves, beautiful fragrant
white flowers, and small
green fruit ripening to yellow.
Native to tropical Asia,
Bergamont is predominently
cultivated in Southern Italy,
and the Ivory coast before
being turned into essential
oil.
Latin Name: Citrus
bergamia, species of
the rutaceae family. Our
outstanding Bergamot
essential oil is obtained by
cold expression of the peel of
nearly ripe Sicilian fruits.
Sicilian Bergamot is regarded
as being of higher quality than
Ivory Coast Bergamot. The
essential oil is a dark
greenish-orange liquid with a
sweet, fruity aroma and a
slight spicy-balsamic
undertone.
Often a first choice for
anyone feeling slightly down
in the dumps. Bergamont oil
brings a little sunshine into
peoples lives. It is also a
favourite with
aromatherapists to vaporise
in the
sick room.
