Eucalyptus essential oil is
extracted from Eucalyptus
globulus of the Myrtaceae
family and is also known as
Tasmanian Blue Gum.
Known for its strong
antiseptic properties, it is a
well known winter oil
traditionally used for its
penetrating clearing aroma.
It is often burnt to reduce
airborne germs or added to
massage oil for a clearing
chest rub. Ideal for sports
people. Blends well with Lavender, the herb oils
and Pine.
Eucalyptus oil is readily
steam distilled from the
leaves and can be used for
cleaning, deodorising, and in
very small quantities in food
supplements; especially
sweets, cough drops and
decongestants. Eucalyptus oil
has insect repellent
properties, and is an active
ingredient in some
commercial mosquito
repellents .
Latin name:
Eucalyptus globulus
species (polybraceta blue
strain). Natural Touch
Aromatherapy uses a
Spanish Eucalyptus whose
quality is reflected in its
aroma and high Eucalyptol
(Cineol - 1.8) content,
proven by GLC analysis. The
oil has typically penetrating,
camphoraceous, woody-sweet
scent.
A powerful antiseptic and
expectorant and therefore a
classic winter remedy. Often
found in an after-sport rub as
it is cooling to the skin but
warming to the muscles. It
has a reputation for 'opening
people up' to make them
more receptive to other
oils. |
