Juniper essential oil is
extracted from Juniperus
Communis, of the
Cupressaceae family and is
also known as Common
Juniper.
A member of the
Cupressaceae family, an
evergreen tree up to six
metres. It is native to the
Northern Hemisphere and has
bluish stiff needles, small
flowers and little round green
berries turning black in the
second year.
As a herb it has great
medicinal value and was used
against contagious diseases,
such as cholera, typhoid fever
and the plague in Tibet and in
Europe.
This crisp essential oil is
used in aromatherapy to help
stimulate and strengthen the
nerves and bolster the spirits
in challenging situations.
Juniper oil can be
extracted from the berries, as
well as the needles and
wood. Natural Touch
Aromatherapy sell the oil
extracted from the berries, as
it is a more superior
essential oil than that
extracted from the twigs and
needles. It has a fresh, clear
but slightly woody aroma, and
is a pale oil with a watery
viscosity.
Latin Name:
Juniperus communis of
the cupressaceae family.
Natural Touch Aromatherapy
Juniper essential oil distilled
from berries of French juniper
shrubs. (The berries were
separated from the branches
and crushed prior to
distillation.) Low quality
juniper berry oils are
produced as a by-product of
alcohol manufacture and have
more turpentine, less berry
like aroma than direct
distillates such as this
one.
A toning and stimulating
oil, often used in a sports
massage after a
performance.
