family it is grown
predominantly in USA and
Australia.
A hardy branched
perennial herb with bright
green, lance shaped leaves
and quickly spreading
underground runners.
Produced by steam distillation
of the flowering tops and
leaves.
Properties are antiseptic,
antispasmodic, carminative,
cephalic, emmenagogue,
insecticide, restorative,
stimulant. Shares similar
properties with peppermint. It
has trace constituents of
menthol so is less harsh on
the skin.
It is a good choice for
children with digestive
problems, such as nausea,
flatulence, constipation and
diarrhoea but must never be
taken orally or used neat on
the skin. |
